How
to Do
Here you'll find how to customize
the templates in order to build your site using them.
I put here a step by step simple way
to customize your first template. I hope that this help you to work
with web templates.
Web Templates
Download
the file
Well the first
thing you must do is download the template you choice, into your hard
drive, to make your work easy, open a new folder and save in it,
create this with a name you remember and make sense for you. This is
a Zip file, in other words a compressed file, so in order to work
with it, you’ll need an unzipping program to open it. WinZip is the
program for Windows customers and Mac users need Zipit to unzip the
files. Download here if you don’t have WinZip, ad here if you need
Zipit.
Install
WinZip or Zipit
Start the program
and go step by step into the installation wizard.
Unzip the
templates
Go to your file
and double click on the file and go to evaluation service, and click
on extract the files, take care to extract them into the same folder
you opened before. After
that you have a single HTML index, main or home file, and some
more HTML like about us, contact etc, some graphics in GIF or JPG
format, one tip, don't change the names of the graphics, or they
won't display on your web page, if you have more knowledge you could
change later if you want some
names that make sense for you, but at this time if this is your first
work, don’t do it.
See the
Template
Well, you want to
see how the page looks. Open
the file index or main or home page it into your web browser, and see
what content you want to change.
Edit the page
If you are a
Windows user you could do this with your Notepad, this could be find
at: select start go to Programs and after that Accessories, and
finally Notepad. For Mac Users use SimpleText or TeachText.
For this go to the
HTML page displayed in your browser, click on tool bars View and
Source, immediately a text file is opened this file contain all the
information of your index template.
Add or delete as
much text as you like. But, don't remove any of the < HTML >
tags - the tags that appear between the greater than and less than
symbols.
If you modify
these tags, you are changing the look of the template, this could be
made in a near future when you understand more about the HTML codes
and tags.
If you are using
an HTML editor like the one we offer free, or such
as Microsoft Frontpage or any that work What You See Is What
You Get, WYSIWYG
you don’t need to do this, you only open the template in
your browser and click on Edit, Select All, and Ctrl Copy and Paste
into your HTML editor, at this time you see all like looks into the
browser, and you are ready to make any changes you like to the
content, in this way you don’t need to worry about delete any
important tags or HTML codes.
Make whatever
changes you want, remember to add your contact information, and save
your work, replacing the index file.
You could improve
your words, to sell whatever you like in your site, I'll recommend
you that read the ebook Make
Your Words Sell, or read the free e-course
about the same topic, the only course online that teach you how to
pre-sell and after that how to sell.
At this time you
are ready to make your web site available online.
Upload the
Templates
If you have your
own hosting service you need to use a program to FTP your files.
First
open your FTP software and put your ftp address, user and
password.
After that open
your file where the template is and select all, search the upload
function and wait until all the files will be upload, according with
your host, the files need to be upload into htdocs, or whatever
instruction you have, remember: the files should upload to the same
names, including the file extension (.htm, or html, gif, .jpg etc)
the graphics are linked to the HTML file, in this order the ideas you
need to upload all the graphics
and the HTML file.
Upload the files
to the same folder/directory on the web server.
Test your site,
all the links, copy the name of the site into your browser and see
how it looks if all is ok. You are finished, if not you need to start
again, until all is working fine.
